Monday 7 September – Strandcamping Doonbeg

A leisurely start to a grey overcast with drizzle which continued on and off most of the day. With nothing pressing and not wanting to get soaked walking up to the village we decided on a lazy day once breakfast and a bit of cleaning and tidying was completed. Jamie had his walks of course.

Colin and Tina joined us late morning for a coffee and chat, meanwhile Terry had started the blog while Bren did some card making/preparation. That's pretty well how we passed the rest of the day.

Whilst the site had remained nearly empty overnight, during the afternoon it filled up again and the “Site Full” notice went out. However due to the layout it never felt crowded – a few of the newcomers were very evidently motorhome “newbies” in hired vans, quite a few of which we've seen on our travels. It seems that the ability to self-isolate has made motorhoming an attractive proposition – we've also heard that many motorhome dealers are running out of stock, the demand has been so high. Whilst that could be taken as a good sign it does mean that there is less room on campsites, which are of course already restricted, which will carry over to our favourite “wild camping” spots.

The forecasters have assured us that the weather will improve tomorrow so we'll plan to move on with a plan to do a bit of shopping and get some fuel.
