A quiet night with some
rain though nothing to disturb us and a pleasant morning. Up when
Jamie announced he wanted out, then was promptly sick over our nice
freshly laundered seat covers! That sorted we had a pleasant stroll
along the river bank before returning for breakfast when the heavens
opened again. Ready to go by 10.30 our first call was for fuel and
some shopping so off to Tesco, who didn't have fuel so we went next
door to Asda instead.

Our target was to join
the Wild Atlantic Way more or less where we had left off, at Galway,
last year although as we had missed a bit we headed a little further
north than that, to Sligo and possibly Westport for tonights stop.
The border was only a short distance but we crossed it with no fuss,
looking for somewhere to empty the loo. Spotting a picnic area with
toilets we called in only to find everything closed and locked, but
there was a water tap so topped up with fresh water – always take
any opportunity!
From there on we just
bumbled along, following TomTom who as usual decided to go the
“pretty” way before we hit the WAW and followed that. One of the
first notable points on the route we encountered was Dunmoran Strand,
a huge and mostly empty beach where we could let the dogs off their
leads to have a good run round. We were pleased to see that they
played happily together although Woody is not as young and couldn't
really keep up with Jamie, but he tried. Back to the van for lunch
then onwards to Westport where Colin had noted a possible
overnighting spot.
A nice run in generally
bright weather with the occasiona shower, we came into this popular
seaside town and drove out along the quay, eventually finding the
recommended spot which, unlike the rest of the town, was empty. As
the winds were forecast to be high again we reluctantly parked across
the bays to be “nose to wind”, although we were too long to fit
anyway – Colin parked properly in our lee although their van is
equipped with drop down legs that level and stabilise the vehicle,
posh!
