Wednesday 9 September – Carrigafoyle Castle to Castlegregory

Awoken to a clear blue sky earlyish by our traveller friend getting ready to depart, his followers having arrived by car again. Exchanged greetings whilst walking the dog and noticed he'd obviously sheltered in a weatherproofed building in the castle area – good luck to him.

After breakfast it clouded over for a while with a light rainshower but thereafter quickly dried up and we enjoyed a bright clear and sunny day. Back to the WAW and a call at Beale Strand to find more height barriers – and a tricky turn around but we managed without incident. Both vans needed fuel so at Ballybunnion (what an interesting name) we had a tour of this nice town looking for the fuel station we knew was here somewhere......... Eventually enlisted TomToms help, it was a little way out the other side of town.

We continued on quiet roads past Kerry Head (we were now in County Kerry), stopping at Ballyheige Beach to let the dogs have a good free run and an earlyish lunch whilst overlooking the Dingle Peninsular. Following the road around on the WAW we stopped at Castlegregory Beach for a cuppa and to select a place to overnight. As it happened there were five other motorhomes parked up intending to stay the night so we decided it was as good a place as any and settled in. There were signs, apparently, saying no overnight parking but we checked with a local lady who said she'd never heard of anyone being moved on – but we suppose there's always a first time! However we're out of the way and there's still lots of room for the various folk who came and went well into the evening.

Another run on the beach for the dogs, but this time Jamie wouldn't come back and Terry had to chase him along the beach. He must have been drinking the seawater when he went paddling as shortly after we got back he was extemely sick several times, managing to do it on three separate seat covers! A good long drink only resulted in more sickness but we did at least manage to get him outside for that. Fortunately after an hour sleep he managed a bit of his meal and seemed to be okay thereafter.

Over a cuppa we sort of decided that, to avoid the problems of last weekend with the crowds, especially as we were now coming into a popular tourist area, we'd book onto a campsite for a couple of nights. So tomorrow we'll call our selected site, one of the few ACSI places in Ireland, to try and book in.

As I write this we're relaxing listening to the waves breaking on the beach only a few yards in front of us now the tide has come in.
